Special Education Teacher (SPED) – School-Based | Multiple Locations
Locations Available: Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado
Schedule: Full-Time | School Hours | Contract 
Setting: K-12 Public Schools (varies by campus/program)

Available Classroom Settings (Varies by Campus)

We are seeking SPED teachers with experience or interest in one or more of the following environments:
  • Life Skills (functional academics + daily living skills)
  • Inclusion Support (push-in services in Gen Ed classrooms)
  • Co-Teach Model (shared instruction with Gen Ed teacher)
  • Resource / Pull-Out (small group intensive instruction)
  • Behavior / EBD / SEL (high structure + de-escalation support)
  • Self-Contained (specialized instruction for similar learning needs)
  • Transition (18–22) (vocational + independent living skills)

What You’ll Do
Depending on your assignment, you may:
  • Deliver specialized instruction aligned to student IEP goals
  • Adapt and modify general education curriculum and lessons
  • Develop, implement, and maintain IEPs
  • Collect data and monitor student progress toward goals
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
  • Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with special education procedures
  • Support students in the least restrictive environment (LRE)

Minimum Qualifications (Core Requirements)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Completion of an approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP) including student teaching
  • Passing applicable state-required certification exams
  • Ability to complete fingerprint-based background clearance
  • At least 1–2 years of direct school-based Special Education teaching experience (required)

State Certification Requirements (Varies by Location)
  • Arizona (AZ): Standard Professional SpEd (K-12); Requires passing the NES Special Education (NT601) exam. AZ offers specific certificates for Mild/Moderate, Moderate/Severe, and Hearing/Visual impairments.
  • Colorado (CO): Initial or Professional Teacher License; Requires a Special Education Generalist or Specialist endorsement. Must complete 10 hours of specific training in special education/behavioral health for renewal.
  • New Mexico (NM): SpEd PreK-12 License; Tiered licensure (Level 1, 2, or 3). Requires passing the NMTA or Praxis exams and 30 semester hours in special education coursework.
  • Texas (TX): SpEd EC-12 (Certificate 161/163)Texas is transitioning to the SpEd Specialist (163) exam. Requires a Bachelor’s, EPP completion, and passing the TExES content exam.
