Job Title: Senior Counsel - Insurance Defense
Key Responsibilities: Legal Representation:
  • Provide legal representation for the insurance company in court proceedings, including trials, hearings, and alternative dispute resolution processes.
  • Draft, review, and file legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.

Case Management:
  • Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters, including personal injury claims, property damage cases, and other claims covered by insurance policies.
  • Conduct legal research to assess the merits of claims and formulate effective defense strategies.

Client Communication:
  • Communicate with clients, insurance adjusters, and other stakeholders to provide updates on legal matters and ensure alignment with overall business goals.
  • Advise clients on legal risks, potential outcomes, and recommended courses of action.

Negotiation:
  • Engage in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes to achieve favorable outcomes for the insurance company.
  • Work collaboratively with opposing counsel to explore settlement options when appropriate.

Compliance:
  • Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations relevant to insurance defense, ensuring the company's practices remain compliant.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory matters affecting insurance defense.

Supervision and Mentorship:
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys and legal staff within the insurance defense team.
  • Provide guidance on legal strategy, case management, and professional development.

Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar and in good standing.
  • Minimum of 9+ years of experience in insurance defense or a related field.
  • Strong litigation and trial experience (1st chair). 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Book of business not required
