Senior Accountant- TEMP to HIRE

We are representing a great company to help them hire a Senior Accountant who has experience with Municipal Accounting and Governmental Accounting.

Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, this position performs a variety of technical, analytical, supervisory, and accounting duties related to maintaining financial operations. Responsibilities include oversight and administration of payroll, accounts payable, fixed assets, financial reporting, budgeting support, audit coordination, and compliance with governmental accounting standards and payroll regulations. This position may also supervise assigned staff and assist in implementing departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain awareness of changes in payroll laws, accounting standards, policies, and government regulations.
  • Process and oversee bi-weekly payroll for employees.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll and financial reports.
  • Process leave accruals and maintain leave balance records.
  • Prepare retirement, federal, state, and other required reports.
  • Prepare and process W-2s by established deadlines.
  • Generate payroll and accounting reports as needed.
  • Assist with and oversee accounts payable functions, including:
    • Receiving, verifying, scanning, and filing invoices
    • Preparing invoice batches for data entry
    • Entering invoices for payment
    • Preparing vendor and manual checks
    • Reconciling vendor statements and invoice discrepancies
    • Maintaining vendor files and accounts payable records
    • Processing and auditing credit card bills
    • Responding to vendor inquiries
  • Maintain and reconcile fixed asset records and files.
  • Assist with grant reporting and budget preparation activities.
  • Coordinate and manage preparation for independent audits.
  • Maintain petty cash records and controls.
  • Assist with utility billing, customer service, utility payments, and related inquiries as needed.
  • Answer and direct phone calls.
  • Assist the Director of Finance with daily accounting operations and implementation of financial procedures.
  • Participate in developing and implementing departmental goals, policies, and priorities.
  • Select, train, direct, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) guidelines.
  • Knowledge of payroll procedures, accounts payable processes, budgeting procedures, and internal financial controls.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting accounting and payroll.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions.
  • Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
  • Skill in performing mathematical calculations.
  • Skill in operating computers, 10-key calculators, and standard office equipment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to establish cooperative and productive working relationships.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing projects.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to be bonded.
