Regulatory Analyst, Power - Houston, TX 77002 Responsibilities:
  • ERCOT-Specific Regulatory Analysis:
  • Analyze and monitor ERCOT protocols, market rules, and regulatory changes from key entities such as ERCOT Reliability Monitor, Texas RE, PUCT, and the Independent Market Monitor.
  • Stay informed on topics such as ancillary services reform, resource adequacy, BESS reforms, and intrazonal congestion.
  • Regulatory Monitoring and Analysis:
  • Assess the impact of ERCOT market activities, such as ancillary and energy bids/offers, on business operations.
  • Monitor and analyze publications and regulatory groups to inform business activities and update internal policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Advocacy and Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ERCOT regulators and participate in high-impact stakeholder meetings, regulatory proceedings, and market rulemaking.
  • Market Compliance Controls:
  • Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance with ERCOT market rules and protocols.
  • Advice and Assistance:
  • Provide expert advice on regulatory matters affecting current and future activities in the ERCOT market.
  • Support the Market Compliance team with regulatory inquiries and data requests.
  • Market Compliance Training:
  • Assist in developing and delivering training programs to ensure employees understand ERCOT rules and compliance requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, finance, or a related quantitative discipline. An advanced degree (MBA/JD/PE) is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in an energy trading firm, with at least 2 years in an ERCOT market compliance role or similar in another ISO/RTO or regulatory body.
  • In-depth knowledge of industry laws, regulations, and standards relevant to energy trading.
  • Strong understanding of the ERCOT market, including DAM, CRRs, resource adequacy, ancillary services, and BESS resources.
  • Familiarity with energy trading markets and products (natural gas, power, renewables), including day-to-day operations, risk management, and trading practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Self-starter capable of working independently in a dynamic trading environment.
