Contract Development Geologist
Job Summary
Our energy client is seeking a Contract Development Geologist to join our North America Onshore team, focusing on unconventional resource development assets. We are looking for an independent and proactive professional who thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented setting. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the development of onshore assets, with a particular emphasis on the Eagleford shale in the South Texas region. This role demands a comprehensive approach to analyzing and integrating various subsurface datasets, such as well logs, core samples, 2D/3D seismic data, and production metrics, to inform field development strategies, well design, geosteering operations and resource assessments. A solid grasp of competitive analysis, reservoir engineering, and drilling and completion processes is essential. The successful candidate must possess proven expertise in horizontal drilling operations, well planning and Geosteering, along with the capability to oversee geosteering operations and wellsite geologists.
The Contract Development Geologist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote. Houston office hours: Monday – Thursday 7:30 AM -5:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Responsibilities
• Generate geologic/geophysical maps and cross-sections from well log and seismic data, production, and competitor data to optimize field horizontal development
• Interface with multidisciplinary team on well approval, execution packages to maintain years of drill-ready well inventory
• Frame asset development plan working jointly with reservoir engineer counterpart in consideration with offset competitor data, proprietary subsurface evaluation and performance and CAPEX expectations/constrains
• Design, plan and execute development drilling working jointly with Drilling, Land and Regulatory teams
• Overseas execution and Geosteering support of planned wells as well as internal reporting to key stakeholders
• Support drilling and completions operations through documentation and communication of subsurface drilling hazards and supervision of geosteering and mudlogging contractors
• Work independently to perform specific geoscience tasks, but often works with broader subsurface team in the development of reservoir characterization products that will aid in well planning, improve execution, or enhance production.
• Generate and present technical presentations to peers and management
• Support quarterly reserves submissions through field development mapping and inventory allocation
• Apply technical expertise in business development and new venture full cycle evaluations related to JVs and Farm ins/outs
Qualifications/Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology or other geoscience discipline
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in petroleum geoscience
• Eagleford experience
• Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with operational well planning and execution
• Proficient in reservoir mapping, volumetrics estimation and competitor evaluation
• Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation)
Desired/Preferred Qualifications
• Masters in Geology or other geoscience discipline
• Minimum 5 years’ experience directly involved unconventional development in Eagleford
• Skilled in standard interpretation software such as Kindgom
