Attorney
 Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide advice and prepare, review, and negotiate  documents/agreements for complex transactions with hospitals, physicians, vendors, managed care companies, third-party payers, and administrative agencies
  • Provide advice related to civil and criminal mental health commitments; represent the organization in court hearings related to commitments
  • Conduct document review of court filings.
  • Analyze and apply state and federal licensure laws related to health care entities and licensed health care professionals, including scope of practice, board reporting obligations, mental health, and patients’ rights, as needed
  • Prepare and review other documents to assist the business and clinical functions of the organization.
  • Serve on committees and assist in the formulation and implementation of policies and practices.
Desired Experience: 
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in a hospital, health care environment, or law firm with practice primarily focused on health law related issues
  • Preference will be given to candidates who experience working with public entities
  • Should have proficiency in legal research, including Westlaw and other research tools, as well as file and document management technology
Required Knowledge, Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of contract terms and conditions; ability to draft complex contracts.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with a team.  
  • Knowledge of the Texas Mental Health Code, the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure and Texas law pertaining to the delivery of health care and the licensing of health care professionals
  • Knowledge of health care clients and a broad array of health care laws and regulations is essential
  • Should have proficiency in legal research, including Westlaw and other research tools, as well as file and document management technology
Education: 
  • Juris Doctor degree (J.D.)
  • Licensed to practice law in Texas
  • Strong academic credentials
