Accounting Manager
Job Description
Accounting Manager Duties:
- Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure
- Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
- Ensure all account reconciliations are performed timely and accurately
- Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information for all companies
- Ensure tight controls over inventory process including physical counts and weighted average cost
- Ensure the weekly and monthly bank compliance activities are performed in a timely and accurate manner
- Support budget and forecasting activities
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy
- Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
- Respond to inquiries from the CFO, Controller, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like
- Lead the company’s interim and year-end audit work with external audit firm; work with the Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit
- Supervise the general ledger group to ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
- Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
- Provide training to new and existing staff as needed
- Handle personnel issues relating to staff conflicts, absenteeism, performance issues, etc.
- Support Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
- Five or more years of leadership in accounting required
- Active CPA license preferred, but not required
- Large regional public accounting firm experience or Big 4 experience preferred
- Thorough knowledge of general ledger, intercompany accounting, consolidation
- Inventory management preferred
- Proficient Advanced use of Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Dynamics experience preferred
- Audit experience preferred
- Petroleum experience preferred
- Manufacturing experience preferred
- Ability to multi-task
- Accustomed to working periodic under tight deadlines such as at month end close out
- Detail oriented
- Time and task management skills essential
- Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision to meet deadlines
